All About Eve (1950)

If you like- America’s Sweethearts, First Wive’s Club, Thelma & Louise

Synopsis– With Anne Baxter playing “Eve”, you may assume the movie is about her. WRONG! This is Bette Davis’ show as she plays the aging actress Margo Channing, as she grapples with the harsh realities of show business, a tempestuous personal life, and her own inner demons.  Davis had notoriously rocky relationships with her costars in the film, with Oscar drama simmering a la Anne Baxter and professional envy of Celeste Holm (Holm could laugh on command. Davis could not.)  Oh real life drama…

*Look for Marilyn Monroe in one of her earliest roles

Why it’s better- Did I mention real life drama? Also, Bette Davis utters the famous, “Fasten your seatbelts; it’s going to be a bumpy night!”

  1. This seems really interesting to me… especially because most of the iconic classic films you hear about, are focused on a man and a woman in some way. It’s nice to see one where they are looking at the intricacy of one person. Thanks for sharing, I think I’m gonna put this one on my Netflix list.
