Notorious (1946)

If you like– James Bond, The Sixth Sense, Bone Collector

Synopsis-The beautiful daughter of a German war criminal, Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman,) agrees to work under cover for the FBI, infiltrating the house of a German spy. That situation is dicy enough, but Alicia must also balance her work with her racy past and complex relationship with coworker T.R. Devlin (Cary Grant.) In typical Hitchcock fashion, there are equal parts suspense and romance.

*Look for an early, steamy scene between Bergman and Grant that was too hot for the censors of the time.  The scene was supposed to contain a few longer make-outs, but Hitchcock was reprimanded and told to keep the kisses short. So they have LOTS of shorter kisses.

Why it’s better- Cary Grant rarely got to play sterner, more dramatic characters, so it’s nice to see him out of his element.  In addition to the incredible acting, the wine bottle scene will have you digging your nails into the couch in suspense (possibly yelling, “Be careful!!”)
