Support Your Local Sheriff (1969)

If you like- Shanghai Noon, The Three Amigos, Maverick

Synopsis- Jason McCullough, a handsome gun-slinger, moseys into town just as the local outlaw clan starts getting out of hand.  McCullough takes the reigns as the new sheriff in town, but ends up with an unforeseen challenge when the Danby family (those local outlaws) call in reinforcements. The film, though it appears to be a veritable John Wayne film, is really a tongue-in-cheek homage to the popular western flicks of the fifties and sixties.

Why it’s better-James Garner (who plays Jason McCullough) is one of the most charming actors to grace the screen. Walter Brennan is also flawless as the patriarch of the Danby clan. Even if you don’t watch westerns, there’s still plenty to love in this pseudo-parody.
