Ball of Fire (1941)

If you like– Can’t Buy Me Love, Pretty Woman, Yes Man

Synopsis– A night-club singer (Barbara Stanwyck) needs a hiding place while the police investigate her mobster boyfriend.  She finds the perfect hiding place with Professor Potts (Gary Cooper), a scholar looking to finish his article on modern slang, and his six elderly coworkers. While the police search for the singer, she uses her colorful vocabulary and fun-loving lifestyle to help the professors gain some perspective on the modern world. Oh, and she falls for Gary Cooper.

Why it’s better– I’m going to readily admit that I am completely biased when it comes to Barbara Stanwyck. But even if you disregard her delightful performance, each and every one of the professors in Ball of Fire combine to make this film the most enjoyable spin-off of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves you’ve ever seen.
